My mother and father are thinking about retiring there. They want to buy a house there but I am uncertain of that area. Anyone have a first hand experience in that area?

You should drive down there and see for yourself. Always seemed like a pretty safe place to me.

"Is it safe?" Reminds me of a certain movie.

Niguel = Safe and boring.

Yes, the $800k+ houses keep the riff-raff out.

Laguna Niguel is safe but expensive. It would be a great place to retire.

I'd be inclined to laugh at the question, until I remembered that the only instances of property vandalism I've experienced were in Laguna Niguel and Ladera Ranch. I've lived for years at a time in West LA, Anaheim, Tustin, and I've been in Santa Ana for a few months now, and not once has my car been vandalized in those places, compared to two break-ins in Laguna Niguel, and two times my cars have been egged in Ladera Ranch. To be fair, the area I lived in Laguna Niguel had more than its share of rowdy kids, and the areas I lived elsewhere were in the nicer parts of the respective cities.

Also, most of the thieves come from Santa Ana, and most thieves would rather steal from Laguna Niguel than Tustin, or Anaheim, regardless of where they're from in OC.

Laguna Niguel is one of the most safe, beautiful, and convenient places in Southern California. I live in the Laguna Crest HOA -- $70/month dues and no Mello Roos!
