Why are so many cabins shuttered? Victims of recession? It's plywood central up there. Is Palomar doing the same?

Perhaps. A lot have been that way for a long time. I think only the group camps are still using them.

They were all inhabited about 4 years ago. Now they have plywood on the windows like they were all shut down at the same time.

I wonder if anyone could get in them for some small time urban exploring or if they too would be alarmed and otherwise secured...

I Think I was last up there about three years ago. The only activity I saw then was on the Morris Ranch Road ( incidentally I accidentally camped there with a friend as we didn't know it was private lol). Other than that, not much resident, or vacation spot activity.
