Looking to move to cali. Have visited, but have no strong feelings about any particular area. I would like to live next to the best beaches for surfing etc, and I hope to live next to a nice city as well. I hate the trashy beaches that get so crowded and littered. I am 28 yrs old and single. Any recommendations??

the ventura county beaches don't get very crowded and they're not too far from LA. maybe start there.

ps- very, very few people in CA use the term 'cali'.

There are good beaches for surfing all over the state but locals sometimes resent "outsiders" and fights break out between surfers. Ventura surfers do not want LA surfers around and it has gotten ugly at times. Malibu has good surfing and all of the Orange & San Diego county beaches are great surfing spots [the "Wedge" in Newport Beach is probably the best place for body surfing in the U.S. outside Hawaii]. Water temps are chilly [mostly 60's & low 70's].

As you can see, Cali is well-inland from any beaches.
