Renewable energy developers broke ground Tuesday for a major expansion of wind-power generation in the Mojave Desert north of Los Angeles, The Associated Press reported.
The Alta Wind Energy Center is planned as the world’s largest wind project, with nearly 600 turbines capable of producing 1,550 megawatts of electricity when completed, with the potential to be doubled, according to developer Terra-Gen Power of New York City.

I like these things and all but the reality is the theoretical max of 1,550 megawatts per day won't ever be realized as the wind just doesn't blow that hard 24/7. They'll be lucky to average 1/3rd of that rate.

Still, it's helping to improve the economy in the state so I can't complain. It's taking useless land in bfe and getting it to produce something of economic value plus it creates some construction jobs along the way. To bad most of the windmill parts themselves will all be imported.

Bad timing for announcing this project. As I type these words, a horrible fire is still raging in the area under discussion.

The Roscoe Wind Farm (780 MW) in the state of Texas, United States, is the world's largest wind farm.[3]
Wind farm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
The world’s largest windfarm began operating today. The Roscoe Wind Complex is composed of 627 turbines over four counties in western Texas. According to E.On Climate and Renewables North America, the owner, it is already generating at full capacity — that’s 781.5 megawatts, or enough electricity to power 230,000 homes.
The World

Quote:
The project took approximately 500 workers, and an investment of over $1 billion dollars to be implemented, according to EC&R.
But the investment should pay off in the end. At 781.5 megawatts, the Roscoe wind complex has the capacity to power 230,000 residences, according to EC&R.
The company said in a statement that the Texas project is "the completion of the world's largest wind farm near Roscoe, Texas (sic)" and that once completed, its London offshore wind project will be "the largest offshore wind farm in the world."
