California's budget is in big trouble. Please see this article:

Schwarzenegger calls for sales tax hike, cuts in services - Los Angeles Times

I only have one thing to say: Are these sales tax increases ever temporary?!

But I wonder how much of this has cut into state revenues the past decade or so.

Considering how much the state's actual revenues are up over any given time period, I'd say "not much". The state doesn't have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem.

Seems if there is a tax... California has it.

I have the least problem with Income Tax because it is a percentage of earning... just like sales tax is a percentage of spending.

Just don't get me started on property tax because it's due whether one has income or not to pay for it.

Wasn't he the one that used to complain about all the taxes?. I didn't live in CA when he was elected but I have a vague memory about seeing him on the news talking about how high the taxes were in CA.

I believe it went " it's not a revenue problem, it's a spending problem". I believe it was the Gumby triple car tax that got him the office and that he was going to kick butt on the hill. blah blah blah. He is just another garbage politician. There is zero justification for any new taxes.

He wants to extend the sales tax to services too. About 85-90% of my revenue is from services performed, not material sold, and isn't currently taxed. I suspect that if this goes through, a lot of people are going to offer me cash for a discount. This could be one of those tax blunders that winds up costing the state more money than it raises.
