That's a pretty scary question. I recall how optimistic I was about science, America and mankind when we landed astronauts on the moon in '69. Comparing that with my pessimism now it's clear that at least in my opinion things have been headed wrong for 4 decades or more. Back then I loved California, would have never thought then that I'd want to live anywhere else. Now I can't wait to get out and move to some place that's quiet and less expensive and not too dysfunctional.

If America is permanently broken then I guess I'll feel about the same as somebody who has a fatal but manageable disease. Try to have the best quality of life I can for as long as I can make it last.

Make sure when you finally leave California, you come back to the California forums and tell us how great it is wherever you land.

Honestly I doubt I could afford to move back to California after selling my house even if I wanted to return.

I don't know that I feel any obligation to tell anybody where I went or how I liked it there. I might even just quit C-D forums when I move since my main interest at C-D is where to move to. Once I've moved why should I care? I feel I've already paid my membership forward by telling people exactly what to expect from California and Los Angeles. I think it may be time for me to make a clean break with my past.

You could probably still afford Upstate California...the far north...the Emerald Triangle.

If I were thinking of moving there I'd move to OR or WA. I like the 4 corners states better.

As the absentee ballots continue to come in from counties like Santa Clara, Marin, Alameda and Los Angeles, Kamala Harris has now taken the lead but only by around 9000 votes.
