It's a tough sell to go to Japan now - at least from the standpoint of either a tourist or business traveller. In the Tokyo area, they have rolling blackouts due to the nuclear power plants going offline. This complicates the frequencies/intervals of rail service (which is electrified); shops, and points of interests may not be open all the time.

$992 is a horrible deal lol, you can find tickets in the $800's or less almost anytime of the year.

Yeah, 992 is ridiculous. Find me a round trip ticket to Tokyo for $500, I might consider it.

Not for a walk-up, though. Those are still in the $1200-1500 range.
