Next up, no more office pot lucks, say goodbye to treats put out for all to enjoy at holiday times, forget the work place baby showers and birthday celerbrations with snacks and cakes. Surely this is only the beginning.

Your post could serve to perpetuate the myth that California is crawling with Gov bureaucrats, and that they somehow create an undue burden on tax payers. The latest available figures (2007) show that we rank 46th out of 50 states in terms of government workers per capita. That's fewer than Texas, that Libertarian Haven of self-reliance.

The tragedy is, for the past 30 years, government jobs have been about the only refuge for a labor force seeking good paying jobs, with union support, health benefits, and pension plans. So, yeah, it's a growth industry. People aren't stupid. They are going to gravitate to where the good jobs are.

Well, ****. Just about every law office I've ever been in has coffee and tea. Sometimes you hit the jackpot and get free cookies. It's not exactly open to the public but coffee, tea, and stale cookies are generally made available to the "customers".

I wonder how many government offices have free donuts/coffee? But then the bureaucrats are doing such a fantastic job that they deserve whatever they can get away with. As I recall government often exempts itself from laws they they want us to follow but don't want to follow themselves.

Well, aside from the fact that it probably wasn't a government worker who finked on the store, but a competitor or a nearby donut shop, if you want to get your pound of flesh for this, here is what you do:

At small political gatherings, there are often snacks and drinks, including coffee, for the attendees. Get out your cellphone and place a call to the authorities and complain about unsanitary food handling practices. Then stand by and watch the fun.

Some folks are just ignorant. California has ALWAYS had either the lowest or second lowest number of public employees per 100,000 population; in 2007-8 it was the second lowest in the whole country so the state runs extremely leanly compared to the other 49 states.

But I suppose facts don't matter to most of the right wing because they're going to keep spouting their "fire them all" ideology no matter what the truth of the matter is.

Somebody filed a complaint and the local government agency had to address it. If they didn't, then someone would say government was being unresponsive. This easily could have been a case where government was happy to look the other way but someone called them out on it.

[government is usually reactive, not proactive]

Just so every one here is on the same track. Before the "" GOVERNMENT"" has to get involved and investigate a complaint they are required by ""LAW"" that it be verified, as in a Verified complaint ( see California Penal code 740) beings that this type of complaint is an Infraction /misdemeanor in our court system . So I would have to ask does the health department have that document. A verified complaint will be from the injured party? stating his / her injury, and will also have the seal and signature of the Notary who witnessed the signature??. Now for the Health dept or code enforcement to have any action to be taking someone into a court of law this is what is required . Bet anything they don't so let the coffee and donuts roll!!!
