Just out of curiosity, how many places have you lived? (other states that is)

Very true, and I have lived and visited many places here and in other continents. It is very hard to find something that another state or country has that California does not also have.

I've lived in California for most of my life, but I spent a year in Oregon and a few months in Illinois.

Over the course of my life, I've lived or done an extended stint in:

WA (Seattle, Auburn, Federal Way, Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds)
OR (Madras, Portland)
NY (NYC, Albany)
MA (Boston, Cambridge, Concord)
NH (Nashua)
CT (New Haven)
CA (LA, Venice, Oakland, San Francisco)

And I echo your sentiment wholeheartedly California is where I've chosen to live out of all these places, and I've never regretted it once. I only regretted moving back to Seattle for awhile.

Lady hit and damaged my car. Cop comes to the scene, looks at my car, says "oh man, that sucks... you just got it... looks clean."

Put the plates on shortly thereafter. Move back up to Seattle. Someone steals my plates - car theft is bad in Seattle, and someone on the S2000 forums had an S2000 stolen a few days prior; we figured that's where the plates went. I didn't feel like buying new plates since I was moving back to CA and just left the old dealer plates on. Got pulled over for speeding, CHP asked why I didn't have plates, said "just haven't gotten around to it," and he just said, "okay, make sure you get those soon, bud. Nice car." No ticket.

Note, though, that not all areas of CA are like this. Back in LA, I would have probably had two guns pulled on me, been cuffed, roughed up, given a DUI check, found to be sober but made to sit in the back of the car while they demanded to know why I didn't give them permission to search my car and picked through my record to see if there was anything they could use to give me a hard time or bring me in. The LAPD are awful
My goodness. . .you must be a white guy! Only white people get breaks like this in California. Had it been me driving around with "dealer plates," I'd a been "Rodney Kinged" on all fours, and would have made the six o'clock news on channel 7.

Oh well. It is what it is. Some are allowed to get away with things which others can't. Such is life. Not complaining. Just making mention of a fact.

Almost all were taken along the Mendicino coast, north of San Francisco, one of my favorite places in the whole wide world. Also a shot from the redwoods near Eureka. Oh, and a couple of shots at Cape Mendicino just south of Eureka/Fortuna/Ferndale.
