where's the country........... (San Diego, Sacramento, Costa Mesa: how much, employment, to buy)

Can someone tell me where in California is there country? Small town but not to far from the convience of things like work and stores. Some place that has woods to hike and hunt? Water to fish in............Looking to buy land.....to build home........someplace where it's not too much for land......and not more than 5 inches of snow..any information would be soooo helpful, thanks for listening

With your list of requirements, I'd suggest another state Especially when it comes to the cost of the land.

You might try far northern CA, the lost coast, or by Eureka and Arcata. I don't know how affordable it is or anything about hunting, but it meets your other requirements. Actually, I'm not sure about jobs there, either.

California is a HUGE state with every type of climate and topography. Woods, hiking, hunting, fishing, snowfall...that's up in far Northern California along the coast like Humboldt County and more inland toward Siskiyou, though it's very mountainous in that region and that's where Mt. Shasta is, etc. Snow is pretty rare along the immediate coast, but if you go closer to the border with Oregon inland from the coast, you might get some here and there. Employment centers on logging in much of far northern California and the lumber industry....and they don't have it good. Employment might be an issue.

California has alot of small towns that are close to the woods,but it sure sounds like the location your looking for is gonna be a bit pricey,so it all depends on how much you are willing to pay for your piece of nature :-)

You should try touring California one day to find the location that you'll like,because the location is what will either save you $$$ or add up more.

For what you are looking for, Big Bear is basically what you are looking for. But, the drive down to "the city" would be a killer.
We currently live in Parker, CO and pretty much everything you want......except for a little more snow.
We use to live in southern California (Costa Mesa). To expensive, to many people, to much traffic.........on and on.
So, we move here. We are orginally from Indiana and Michigan so the weather here don't bother us.

Check out these counties

Butte, Nevada, Shasta, Calaveras, Tuolumne, Amador, Placer

Below the snow/Above the fog. Distinct seasons, woods, lakes, wineries, land, history etc.. Anywhere from 2 to 4 hours from SF or 1-3 hr from Sacramento. 1-3 from Tahoe/skiing et al.

Try Julian. It's in the San Diego mountains. We camp there and love it. pricey though

Try looking into Tehachapi. Its in the mountains and you can find decent priced land.
