Yawn! Just more of the usual, polemic sophistry from the usual source.

• I can't imagine NOT having a weapon (gun) in the home.

• Dobermans are big, lovable cream puff couch potato babies. I had them around the house for almost 30 years. (they were very effective against door-to-door proselytizers) Now I have a fat pit bull who exhibits the standard breed characteristic of being a horrible watch dog because she loves just about anyone on two legs, and seldom, if ever, barks.

The chance of getting burgled or being the victim of crime is statistically insignificant. Yet, there are those in this country who carry weapons, have weapons in their homes, deadbolts, car alarms, doberman pinschers, etc.

Generally these people are of the Conservative persuasion, these are also the people who see illegal aliens and muslims and frenchmen and anyone that can be classified as "other', as existential threats to America (I made up the part about the frenchmen). It is the reason why when someone asks if a town is "safe" in truth, they are asking if there is a high percentage of hispanics or blacks, or laotians or hmongs or whatever. It is the reason for the questions of Obamas's citizenship. Barack Obama sure does not sound like the standard north European origin of all our other Presidents, that creates fear.

Fear is the driving force in their lives, not hope, not love, not having fun, but fear. I have always found that sad.
Gotta agree with most of this.

The "of course" would be the response of someone who has to justify their moving to some eastern state.
The arrogant California-centrism in this particular post is astounding.

There are 49 other states in the union.

You'll find this a common theme amongst some posters here.. We tend to just ignore them when they go on such mindless rants.. that or laugh and make fun of them (my new approach).

You god forbid turn a nob and lock your door and suddenly all hell breaks loose in way of implications .. and you're a conservative and live in fear...

OMG, i l0cked my d00r ... i so scared...

Just laugh hehe.. I have learned to do so w/ respect to .highnlite's posts long ago.. bwahah

Suggestion: Avoid any of the California fora. (We both know you won't, but it's guaranteed relief for the painful burning itch of astounding)

Never a problem.
A month ago I had my keys hanging out of my front door lock for a whole night. I have all kinds of tools (mainly gardening) just laying on my front porch and in front of my garage and have had them there for the past two years. Never a one has been touched. Yet if this was the San Diego forum, you'd have plenty of people saying how dangerous my part of the county is - - despite statistics that show that much of California is safer than it has been in 40 years (much of the rest of the country can say the same thing).

So, yeah, I agree with your other post about the cultivation of fear. A 24-hour news cycle is great for that.

It's the tinfoil hat wearers/bunker makers who are afraid of crime that doesn't exist in the way that they imagine it that scare me the most.
