North California Best Place for me and me? (San Jose, Fremont: neighborhood, place to live)

Hi I live in texas at the moment and want to move to california with my father. He's 59 and runs an IT company and can work from anywhere - I'm 22.

We want an upper middle class neighborhood in a suburb of North Cal, but not really sure where to go.

We want lots of parks, lakes and lush areas, diversity of culture with lots of asians and east indians (we are east indian). Preferably in the bay area, or anywhere in Ncal is fine for now.

If it were an IT hub it would be good for my father, he can be close to his work.

Sunnyvale would probably tick all of the boxes, since it seems to be predominately East Indian, is mainly upper middle class, is suburban, has several parks and such and there are some nearby lakes. In addition, it is very close to all the tech companies in the Silicon Valley.

I agree with the nicer Santa Clara County areas. Very diverse with a large East Indian population, very tech oriented, relatively safe for a large metro area.

Mountain View seems to have a lot of Indians. Palo Alto is a town you may also like.

Why is it when somebody on this board says that they want to live around lots of white people that everybody gets all up in arms and when somebody from any other race comes along and says that he wants to live around his own people nobody raises an eyebrow?...just sayin'

Anyways, OP, while I don't agree with your desire to stick with your own people and not integrate with other cultures, you may want to check out Fremont as well. There is a huge Indian population in Fremont and the Mission San Jose area of town is very upscale. Fremont also has a large park (Central Park) with a man-made lake in the middle of it. The East Bay Regional Park District also has numerous parks throughout the East Bay with lakes/hiking trails, etc. Fremont is also basically considered part of Silicon Valley, so it would probably be a good location for your father's work.

Who said anything about not integrating with other cultures, or that I want to 'live around my own people'? I do want people from my own culture to hang out with - to make sure that the culture is there and that I can meet with it, but here its your assumption that the reason I want to be around my own culture is because I don't want to integrate is yours.

Would you like to be the only white or black person - in a town with very few people from your own culture if you could help it?

Sorry, your original post just rubbed me wrong. There is a strong tendency on this board for people to jump all over somebody who says they want to live in an area around white people and people get all crazy about it and say how racist that person is. When somebody says they want to live around East Indian/Asian people, nobody says a thing. I apologize for mis-reading your post.

Sunnyvale as a whole is a good suggestion that you were given, but I still think you really should look at Fremont as well. Having spent a lot of time in both Fremont and Sunnyvale, I think Fremont has a stronger sense of community than Sunnyvale. I also think the nicest parts of Fremont are nicer than the nicest parts of Sunnyvale and overall Fremont is a cheaper place to live.
