I wouldn't want to live there!

What a pity we couldn't gather them all up and ship 'em off to fight in the Middle East

How do you know this? Also, Los Angeles is by far the largest city on the west coast so having more gang related murders than other cities is almost a given. But per capita is it the worst? I don't think so....

Also, I'm confused, you ask why the news don't report "this" yet you are citing the LA times? Last time I checked that was a news paper....

Why would you expect any other city to have more muders than LA? After all, the population is 3-4 times higher than any other west coast city. Just the odds based on ratio of murderers to others dictates that LA
would have the most.

You do realize that report was for other cities as well? Lawndale, Pomona, Downey, Santa Clarita, Compton (of course everyone just lumps it all together as "L.A."). The murder rate is also lower in Los Angeles than at any time since the late 1960s (and you know how much smaller the population was then and how much different the demographics were). I'd think that's reason to feel hopeful.

Lived in Salinas one year when it was reported to have the highest per capita murder rate. We thought that was something to be proud of, it changed the focus from the everyday reporting of gangbanging and driveby shootings. Open your front door and get riddled with bullets.

When did the Los Angeles times stop counting as the news?

Think about that, we toss "em" all into the military, teach them tactics, leadership, unit cohesion skills, weapons training, and a few years they come home.... Then what happens?

We toss them onto the street and expect them to fend for themselves.
