Because 3 of the 4 oldest stadiums in the NFL are in California, and for MLB, the 3 oldest stadiums outside of Wrigley Field in Chicago and Fenway Park in Boston are all in California, and also why the NFL still has not returned to Los Angeles after 17 years, because the NFL ruled out ever returning to the Coliseum when the Raiders moved out and returned to Oakland in 1995 and the city’s insistence on a NFL team playing at the city and state-owned relic is one of the biggest reasons the NFL hasn’t returned, seriously why are L.A. politicians and California politics like this? Pretty much every other state except for California has virtually no problem building a new Sports venue or stadium, but it is nearly impossible in California. Why was L.A. or is so damn stubborn about building a new Football stadium, they are like this "use the Rose Bowl or Coliseum, because we are not building a new stadium". Also the 49ers and Raiders are thinking of relocating, same-thing with the Chargers. So why is California like this?

Maybe because in California people prefer to go outside and do stuff instead of sitting on their derrieres watching someone else do stuff.

Because California provides the option for folks to place a referendum for voter approval, before any tax increase whatsoever is established to fund these facilities.

Other states don't put those taxes to full public vote.

Because new stadiums don't pay for themselves and nobody wants to subsidize rich team owners.

I work every day in an old run-down government building, and a team player can't play a few hours a week in a 10-year-old building?

If each team member put $25,000 of his multi-million dollar salary each year in a special stadium fund, then the whole country will have wonderful stadiums for them to play in.

Yup. California lets voters make decisions about stuff way more than other states where things can get railroaded through without much scrutiny. Also real estate in the big sports markets in CA is insanely expensive which adds to the cost.

California also has the only 100% privately-funded sports stadium, where the SF Giants play (can't keep track of what they call it now). Other cities may want to take their cue...I hear Miami-area taxpayers got raped over the new Marlins ballpark.

Isn't the Staples Center(where the Lakers play) wasn't that 100 percent privately-funded? I read this in an article posted yesterday, it said "Virtually every new professional sports venue in the country receives some form of public financing. California historically has been unwilling to provide public financing, so Los Angeles has had to find a way to privately finance a stadium. Since the Raiders and Rams left Los Angeles 16 years ago, 22 NFL stadiums have opened and five others have undergone major renovations. Approximately 50 percent of the funds used on these stadiums were provided by public sources, according to Conventions, Sports & Leisure International." So is it the attitude, mentality, perspective of California residents or is it the California government rules, or both that make California like this?

because the owners grow tired of it and they threaten to move the team if a new one is not built, and if it is not built then don't complain if it leaves
