county is what i always recommend (not necessarily S.C. proper) and i much prefer other towns in the county over Santa Cruz. Aptos and Soquel are where i have lived most and are my communities of choice in the county.
Santa Rosa area sounds like a good suggestion to me.
I just don't know it well enough to give advice about it.
And when you say "affordable" of course that's a relative thing but i imagine it's just a bit less pricey that Santa Cruz county and depends on where you are up there?
