SANTA ROSA, Calif. -- Every time she pulls away from her parent's house, leaving behind her 3-year-old daughter, Angelina, as she heads to work at a local hospital, Jenny Abundis wonders what will happen while she is gone..........

Call me out of touch... but, isn't it the parents responsibility to care for the children they bring into the world?

The story makes no mention of the child's father... unless I missed it?

No doubt about it... being a single parent is very difficult... the question is just how much should the taxpayer's foot the bill in a time the budgets are already maxed out?

In my own family... family members often found it just wasn't economical or good for the kids to be in daycare... it's just about break-even in the bay area for many with two kids whether to have one parent stay at home or go to work and pay for care.

There are already dependant and child care tax deductions and many non-profits run co-op child care where the parents share responsibility...

I don't see the situation getting any better in the future and I know grandparents that get stipends from the State to care for their grandchildren...

Isn't this because of the gold-plated pensions & Cadillac health care afforded the prison guards?

Where's the sperm donor in all of this? I get so tired of hearing about the travails of single moms who can't seem to grasp the intricacies of birth control. Don't date worthless guys and if you do, use birth control. If you manage to have children while married and then divorce, make the non custodial spouse pay their share. So many don't even try to force child support. People are their own worst enemies and it shouldn't be up to the state to constantly pick up the pieces.

Then they post on City Data asking where's the cheapest and safest place to live in California because they have to move here for the welfare and "medical" weed.

I didn't have a child, or even a pet, until I was married and bought a house and could afford it.

While I sympathize with the unfortunate, free child care for anyone is never going to be a priority for me. Figure something out, live with family, share duties with another single mom, do daycare yourself, etc.

Welcome to the entitlement Country. Why don't people think like below BEFORE they start kickin the kids out.

But I have to work. I want to move up in life and be a role model for my kids. I don't want to go on welfare. I just go day by day."
