I have been pushing for a Mother Lode forum, many counties fit in the Lode.

Let's look at this idea from another perspective.

First, there is not going to be any "Kern County" subforum. The Administrator doesn't operate the site that way. It's not County-Data, it's City-Data. The only time they do county based subforums is when the counties in question are a part of a very large metropolitan area like LA, NYC, Chicago, SF, and Wash DC.

However, there could eventually be a "Bakersfield" subforum. As of right now there are about 120 threads with Bakersfield in the title. That is no where near enough for a new subforum, but 300 threads or so might interest the powers that be.

What other cities would be appropriate for inclusion in a Bakersfield subforum? What are the suburbs of Bakersfield that would push up that 120 threads number?

Kern County has 3 things - prisons, oil wells, and Arvinites.

You noticed that, too? It's probably because it's too "Right Wing", "Conservative" or too many "cooties". Who knows, and best of all, who cares? It's also the reason I live here now instead of that necrotic LA County "next door". What a left wing oriented armpit. Kind of hot and sweaty like one, too. There also aren't many jobs there either. Here, just an hour or so away, I walk in the first place and walk out with a job. What a difference 40 or 50 miles makes, and in California no less. See, that's what it means to live in a primarily Conservative community. Great schools for the grand kids, jobs for me and no pan-handling bums demanding a hand-out as soon as I walk out the door.

What more could I want?

Prisons, places where we keep criminals. That way they don't cause us problems later, unlike LA.

Oil wells, so our fuel prices are lowest in the state.

Arvin, where you don't have to pack 3 squares just for a trip to the DMV. It's worth my 40+ minute drive instead of going to the AV Armpit.

Now what, Johnson? Any other wise cracks?

Apparently the Kern County state prisons house only Kern County crooks, according to Mr. Jack.

It sounds like grandpa there hasn't discovered the wonders of the online appointment system that DMV have successfully implemented statewide. Well, at least it works in Fontana, San Clemente and Temecula. Can't speak for the other branches.

There are three refineries in Kern County with a combined output of 107,000 barrels per day.

California uses 1,680,539 barrels of oil per day.

What's hilarious is he assumes the base price of a global commodity is determined by extraction and refining location.
