That is a major WTF. A problem, 33.5 million of that is green sticker money, which can be raided for other park uses but the OHV crowd is going to howl.

Indeed. This is the type of scandal I like to see. In fact, with all the tax money we pay I won't be surprised if there was more "lost" money like this in someones kitty.

Default more detail

Another article with more explanation and detail just popped up ... from the Mercury News:
With State Parks scandal, questions about closure decision - San Jose Mercury News

This is a real brain-fart on somebody's part ... one resigned, another fired so far.

I hope some of that goes to speed up opening access to the world's smallest mountain range.

I have always enjoyed referring to it as the world's smallest mountain range... Did you know there is an artesian spring in the middle of it the origin is in the coast range due west, but the aquifer brings it to and up and out in the middle of the buttes.

There was no public access when I lived there, good to see a state park there now. We used to do Anthro field trips into the ranch, back in the olden days.

(spoiler alert) It isn't really the worlds smallest mountain range, but actually the southern most projection of the Cascade Range. An eroded lava dome.
