My previous idea was moving to Florida in a few years but the more I think about it, the less I want to go there lol. Right now I live in a city that has closer to 50k people and is about an hour from any beach. Ideally I'd like to live on or close (10mins max) from the beach. I wouldn't mind living in a city with about 100k people or so as I don't really like my small town.

SoCal seems like the nicest area, but I don't want to be anywhere near LA. What are the best places? So far I know of San Diego, Del Mar, Newport Beach and a few others?

Santa Maria if you have a low budget. It's 10 minutes from the beach. However, it has a very large number of illegal immigrants.
Arroyo Grande if you have a mid level budget. It has its own beach (Grover Beach), has an old town feel and if you include the 5 cities area hits around 50k.
Pismo Beach if you are working off a higher budget. Downside to this popular tourist town is...it is a popular tourist town. It's quite busy during the summer months.
Santa Barbara/Goleta - Lots of beaches, very expensive housing, and lots of culture.
