Hello everyone, just had a quick question!

Some background info:
My permanent address is in Washington State and my driver's license and motorcycle license are all from Washington State. I go to college here in California but go back to Washington every break and through the summer and am planning on leaving to Washington for good in about 2 years. But while I am here, I am looking to purchase a motorcycle.

Question:
How would I go about registering a motorcycle or transferring the title to my name? I am looking to purchase a motorcycle from a private seller. Is there any special form that I must fill out to do so? Or can I just go to the DMV nearest to me in California and register the bike like every other person? This will be my first ever vehicle purchase of my own.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

As long as you are maintaining your permanent address in Washington--and going to school here does not constitute residency--you can, if you wish, title the bike in Washington.

Otherwise, the previous posters are correct--just go into your local DMV office (make an appointment first) and the titling is fairly simple.

Thanks... my bad!

I had to find all of my answers from the CA DMV when I moved here with a car and a motorcycle. I also sold that bike here and bought a new one 2 years ago. The DMV website helped me a lot.

I actually use the DMV site a lot to re-register both the car and motorcycle.

This is where to find your answer http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures...cts/ffvr32.htm

He won't be considered a resident if he does not fall under any of these:

V C Section 516 Resident

Thank you everyone! I have checked the California DMV before, but I was just a little confused on if there was anything "special" that I needed to do because I am a Washington State resident and am going to be buying and riding a motorcycle here in California.

Also, on the back of the Title, not 100% sure, but I believe it requires you to put your address if you are the buyer. Should I put my home address in Washington? Or my mailing address here in California?
