SanSan is more like San Diego to Santa Barbara.

San Francisco and its surroundings appear to be merging into another megalopolis actually.

CA has 2 megalopolises(megalopoli?)

Not just "obtaining" water, but "retaining" water. (Wow, I feel clever.) A lot of areas in what would become the Bay Area-Stockton-Sacramento megalopolis have flooding issues that are going to get a lot worse before they get better.

Interestingly, it seems that everyone loves open space, and no one relishes the thought of hundreds of miles of suburbia, but whenever there's a discussion about how we can accommodate increases in population without paving all of our farmland or bulldozing half our trees, it must be UN-sponsored plot to get us to live in those little Ikea example apartments.

Why can't the Feds sell Camp Pendleton (or most of it) and move the Marines further inland? Can you imagine how much money they could make with that prime piece of real estate?

I don't see it happening until we are able to create a transit system that can cover that vast area. One that is frequent and cheap enough for the average person to use on a daily basis. CaHSR won't be cheap enough to make that happen.

There will always be at least two distinct mega cities. However, it could well end up being only two. Yes, Sacto-Cisco (or some such).

I am not sure you understand the word 'marine'

Camp Pendleton is an important training base for the U.S. Marines, one reason is amphibious training

They can keep part of the beach property. Besides, they have a couple of the channel islands. Do they really need Camp Pendleton? The money they make by selling it would be enormous.

The Navy doesn't care what the land is worth. Its theirs as long as it serves an operational need.

They already do!

Look up Temecula, CA & Murrieta, CA. Those communities are your "frontier exurbs" that now connect San Diego with Los Angeles.

From Ventura to Redlands to San Diego is already one big megalopolis.
