This is PSA Senno. And no, I'm not talking about prostates. Of which some seem to be inflamed around here.

Keep Calm and Carry On. Such people as do the Duty are doing their best to protect you. You can do your best for us

So, in honor of our missing horseman I will tell a tale of horses and cows from my own life.

Senno Rides the Range for a Little Bit:

Seems when I was 13 and on summer vacation in Idaho, a call came in to my uncle. Some of his beef cattle down on the
other side of town had broken out and made off like bandits. This was a problem since it had been 24 hours since the
neighbor had last seen the cows and we'd no idea how far they might of gone.

So the orders went out to gather the horses and tack and load up. This was all new to me, since I'd never been on a
roundup before. But I consulted my memory of Hollywood movies and figured I could do that well enough in an emergency.

But I did ask my uncle for some clarification. He told me to follow the trail, and let the horse do it's thing. Don't
jerk the bit if he wants to turn left and I think right, cause the horse is trained to roundup the cattle. I thought
that was cool and wondered if we couldn't just send off the horses and relax ourselves until they returned. But that
wouldn't work none cause some horses are temperamental like that and won't work without a partner on their back.

So my uncle outfitted me with a cowboy hat. This was important cause if I as a Californian showed up without the right
hat I might take some ribbing from my uncles friends. The hat didn't feel quite right, but he adjusted it and it
settled in. He said I had a good hat head, fortunately.

So we loaded up, and off we went to the south of town. Got there and some other men folk had gathered and were waiting on us. We saddled up and sure enough, there's the trail. So off we headed.

Now I ain't no botanist, so southern Idaho looks about the same to me as central CA, just with volcanic rock strewn
about some and a bit more sage brushy maybe. That made me real careful not to fall off the horse, cause a bad landing might be had.

So we trotted off. This was explained to me as the right speed to go as we needed to get there, wherever there was at
the right speed, but without tired horses. Since the horses was ok with it, that worked out fine.

So we rode about 30 minutes and found us some lazy cattle. Their daring escape ended when they found some nice grass.

So I let loose on the reins and my horse went to the spot it wanted to go to. And sure as the world, some sorta
autopilot kicked in and we got those runaway cows herded right back up and on their way back to their hidey hole.

We arrived back safely, and there Senno learned how to repair a cattle fence. Which might be part 2 of this story at a
later date.
