How far will the government go to infringe on your rights?

Quote:
In San Francisco, residents aren’t even allowed to store their own belongings in their home.

Residents of the liberal city are banned from using their garage to store any personal property other than a vehicle. Chapter Six of the San Francisco Housing Code states, “Private and public storage garages in apartment houses and hotels shall be used only for storage of automobiles.” Those who violate the law can be slapped with a $500 fine.

Where does it stop? To what level of intrusion will Democrats go to govern every level of your personal – and professional life? Will Americans ever wake up to what's happening? Okay, so it only deals with hotels and apartment houses. What comes next?

I can see some reasoning, since on-street parking is at such a premium, and a garage full of boxes may mean another car on the street. Still, if someone is paying for a garage as part of their rent and has no car the law does seem silly.

I was reading in the Chronicle that Supervisor Mark Farrell will be introducing legislation to repeal the garage storage ban.

I am not the pessimistic type but I have zero faith in Americans waking up.

I noticed right away after moving here just how many personal freedoms I lost due to the ignorant laws that the people here voted for.

I never imagined that a "liberal" city would vote to allow their government to take away so many personal freedoms. Go figure

Sounds a lot less invasive than our nation's drug laws.

1) Why would we care what American Overlook has to say about anything,

2) Why is someone who lives in Vegas having a heart attack over SF laws?

The law might suck, but SF has enough of a parking crisis without having every garage filled with junk instead of cars.

The logical thing for liberal SF to do would be outlawing cars and mandating foot, bicycle, and public transportation.

I would differ with you because it may seem like a minor thing to you BUT, it is really none of the City's business what you store on your property unless it is dangerous, hazardous or violates zoning laws.

The more power you give elected officials over our lives, the more we inch towards a closed society similar to North Korea or Cuba.

Yes, laws that remove your freedoms sound beneficial as you say it might free up some curb spaces. However, without a detailed study, who knows?

Hold onto the rights we still have. They are precious!!

Good grief people, can't you see how slanted that site is?

30 seconds of Googling brought up the true story - a Supervisor is undertaking a project to clean up a bunch of old, inconsistent and outdated laws from the books. The garage ban was cited as an example of a law that doesn't make sense anymore, it's not a new initiative.

A push to abolish 'ridiculous' S.F. laws - SFGate

Do those knickers of yours ever un-twist?

Uh, you can't store stuff (other than a car) in a hotel garage or in your apartment complex's garage parking space. This should be a no-brainer whether your a Democrat or a Republican.

Anytime some rag blames a silly thing like that on "liberals", you gotta figure there's a deeper story, and that it probably has nothing to do with "liberals".
