Most of those manufacturers left for other countries, not other states. Some of the ones who went to other states eventually went to other countries too.

I don't really know what the reps could really do when things like this are acceptable to the voters of this state.
Capitol Alert: Rod Wright introduces bill to convert some felonies to misdemeanors

CA Senator Wright (D) was convicted of 8 felonies a few days ago and is still allowed to remain an elected state senator, first bill he introduces after his conviction is to allow certain felonies (like the ones he was convicted on) be converted to misdemeanors. Not to mention the corruption allegations from the FBI towards Calderon.

The legislator in this state is such a joke and people follow blindly.

Republicans seem to be alive and well in my county. On the other hand so are the Greens.

I'll bet your Republicans are the environmentally conscious variety of Republicans. Those are a rarity outside of a few states.

Southern California's economy is larger than Northern California's economy though the north makes more per person. The main division in the state isn't north vs south but the highly developed (and net tax paying) coastal regions vs the less developed net taker inland areas. This also mirrors the red blue divisions in the state.

Actually, if you're referring to the California legislature (Senate and Assembly), nobody, really. Had gridlock because until, recently, it took a supermajority to pass a budget bill. Well, while Republicans were in the minority, there were enough of them to block budget bills, but not enough of them to lead one - vice versa for the Dems.

Also complicating things is California's addition to the initiative process, Prop XXX, Prop YYY, etc., which get passed but limits the actual budget that legislators can actually control if it's a spending proposition.

Term limits (also passed by citizen's initiative) have also had unwanted side effects 1) lawmakers aren't in office long enough to really learn the legislative process 2) they aren't long around enough to build relationships with other legislators, particularly those from a different political party or ideology - which encourages political polarization rather than cooperation 3) gives lobbyists more clout in Sacramento since there's no term limits on THEM.

Well, while we still have term limits, at least the state doesn't need a supermajority to pass a budget; it's also helped that the Republicans have lost representation by their unpopularity so they have less clout to block bills.

Now that we have a drought situation, we're going to have water wars - the urban areas vs. the rural areas that rely on agriculture - which is the biggest user of water. Nobody is going to be happy.
