Thought I'd get some feedback on this for those that might vacation to either area during this time. I'm in the Bay Area. I have to be at a family function in San Diego on Thursday morning, and it'll only last the day. I have the entire next week off, so I'm planning a short vacation. Either 4 nights, or 5. Will be driving.

Right now I'm debating between hitting Las Vegas for 3 nights and then making my way down to San Diego for 2, or splitting 4 nights in San Diego and LA (mostly San Diego).

Either one sounds appealing, although I've been to Vegas fairly recently (6 months ago) but haven't been to San Diego in about 5 years.

Just kind of wanted to get a sense of what people would recommend, taking into account things like weather, hotel prices, crowds, etc at this time of the year for either locale.

Around this time of year we start getting what is known as May Gray and June Gloom in SoCal, essentially low temps, early morning fog and overcast. I checked weather dot com and it looks like all next week will be cloudy in SD, not exactly optimal beach weather, but you should be used to the cool weather and gray clouds up north.

Las Vegas, on the other hand, will be in the high 90's next week...which translates to chill time by the pool with a couple drinks, and very comfortable night temperatures (low 70's) for exploring the strip at night, as well as downtown Vegas.

I should note that clouds tend to dissipate by early afternoon, so if you don't love the heat, you might enjoy your time in LA/SD much more this upcoming week than in Vegas.

Depends on what you want to do. One is a playground for adults with things to do 24 hours a day and one is more of a family oriented city with a beach. Night and day difference. Vegas will be cheaper for sure since its now their off season and its also about 35 degrees hotter than SD.

Vegas is too hot this time of year. I was there in late May, in 2009, and it was over 100 degrees during the day. Just felt awful to be out during the day. San Diego and Southern California would be my choice.

For you it is. Everyone has an optimal temperature range. Maybe the OP enjoys warm weather ?

We have family in Vegas, although we prefer it around Laughlin. We like Avi,

Avi Resort & Casino | Laughlin's Place to Play! - Welcome to the Avi Resort & Casino!

they have a beautiful pool area, sandy beach & boat ramp on the Colorado River...

Treat us like family...

Have an Awesome Adventure.
