What is Lodi like now? I have not been there since my youth in the 1960s (I grew up in Stockton, but have lived in the Bay Area since 1974)
Reason I would like to know is when retirement comes for me, I will very likely need to find a lower cost area to live. I live currently in western part of SF.......tired of all the cool overcast days and given the current rental market, moving to a neighborhood with more sun would not be possible, nor would moving to Berkeley or a safe area of Oakland be feasible in retirement
I am considering the Gold Country area, Redding, Cloverdale/Ukiah area and perhaps Lodi is worth a look since I have family in Stockton. I don't really care for suburban sprawl type cities/towns

Considering it three times the size it was in the 1960s and a bedroom community of Stockton you probably won't like that suburban sprawl aspect. Being you're only 90 minutes away you ought to drive over some overcast June gloom day in SF to enjoy the sun. Check it out for yourself. I've never lived there, but it seems like a nice enough small city.

Its the Central Valley, so there's that.

Lodi in still a nice smaller city but starting to get some bigger city problems.

You can go from one edge of town to the other in about five minutes if you hit all green lights.
