Your annual growth rate for Cali is misleading, in fact it's the growth for 2012-2013 combined !!!
For 2013, California had only +2.0% growth, less than Brazil ....
Real numbers:
Texas’ economy grew 3.7 percent in 2013, ranking No. 8 among U.S. states | Dallas Morning News

LOL

No, I am quoting the current dollar GDP which is found on the last page of the official press release:
http://www.bea.gov/newsreleases/regi...df/gsp0614.pdf

Current GDP also known as Nominal GDP measures the total dollar amount not adjusted for inflation. It is the rawest measure of GDP---REAL GDP is also known as PPP(Purchasing Power Parity) and PPP GDP does not provide total dollar value of nations' GDPs but goes by price inflation and other criteria that dilutes and inflates actual productivity.
What's the Difference Between Nominal and Real?

I prefer raw numbers.

And if you go to the last page of the PDF I linked above and divide California's 2013 current GDP by it's 2012 current GDP, the change was +3.62%

Here is the current data for all 50 states calculated from the last page of the press release:

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
TOTAL GDP 2013 In Current Dollars: $16,701,415,000,000

Yea, lets just focus on stupid GDP numbers and bury our heads in the sand when it comes to real problems like some of the worst unemployment rates in the country, the highest number of people living in poverty in the country, the highest number of Welfare recipients in the country, spending BILLIONS a year (triple of most any other state) on nearly 3 million ILLEGAL criminals breaking the law, tens of thousands of jobs and companies leaving the state each year, violent criminals being released back on to the streets because of prison overcrowding, some of the worst traffic and air quality in the country....but by all means, go ahead and gloat over GDP numbers
