Hi...I am thinking of visiting a friend out on the West Coast...he lives in Salinas...I know and heard that it is not the best area...but I am wondering of a place near by that is a nice place to stay for a few days while I am visiting? Any help would be great...thanks

Salinas isn't the worst place in the world, but if you really want it to feel like a vacation and have a little cash to spend I'd stay in Monterey or the Carmel Valley someplace. You'll see what the Monterey Bay is all about, then...

Absolutely stay in Monterey! Talk about beautiful--ocean views and great seafood! Carmel Valley this time of year is pretty-fall colors-yes, we actually have "seasons" in some parts of CA! Also a drive down the 17 Mile Drive is awesome-all ocean and spectacular.........
