Here in the SF Bay Area, the most dangerous areas would probably be Bayview/Hunters Point in SF and East/West Oakland. East San Jose has a fair amount of gang activity and does have some pretty sketchy neighborhoods, but honestly nothing on par with the other areas I mentioned in SF/Oakland.

I heard Atherton and Emerald Hills are especially dangerous. You should check them out, but only during the day with a couple of friends.

Try visiting the bankers in the financial district. And watch your wallet. Better yet, leave it outside in the car glove box.

In Oakland, over the past year or two, a couple of TV crews with armed security were roughed up and were robbed of their high end camera equipment.

If you are wanting to enter into danger, keep a clear eye ... and a lot of high powered well armed security willing to shoot to kill.

NEVER think you are safe in some of these places!

Atherton is out of control! The last time I read the police blog there was a "suspicious character" roaming the neighborhood and a resident was very concerned. It turned out he was just a landscaper working for a neighbor...true story. I hear the local PD spends a lot of time rescuing cats from trees too...not true story.
