We got some of the overflow across the street from where I live downtown.

Many of them should be institutionalized, IMO.

10th/11th & San Fernando is the local 'institution'. It's just not done under one roof.

I would rather there be one cluster downtown then having to see them everywhere. In SF it's even worse they are everywhere, you see just as many homeless as fire hydrants.

The best way to get the homeless out of sight is to bring back the Occupy movement. When Occupy Portland set up its tent camp downtown, there were very few homeless actually on the streets until the camp was taken down.

That's sort of what happened in San Diego. A lot of those homeless were booted out of canyons and especially out of the San Diego River area and are all now around freeways. I've been in the Inland Empire (Ontario and Fontana) for the last week and a half and there certainly are far fewer homeless here.

Something doesn't add up. CA feels like we have more homeless. It has to be harder to count and calculate as well.

I don't think it's as hard as it appears. Law enforcement and other parts of local governments seem to know exactly where the homeless are and what they're doing. What they're not doing is sharing that information. Think about it; what community or chamber of commerce would want that info out there?

Oh yeah definitely no city would want that information open. I wonder if it's a matter of our homeless are concentrated in certain cities.

Downtown Los Angeles has the largest concentration of homeless people in all of the country. So maybe per capita California is in the top 10, but going by a straight up count California wins hands down. Congrats to us! And as gentrification takes hold in DT LA you will see more and more homeless people being displaced and moving into suburban neighborhoods. That's something to look forward to.

Default California is NOT the worst when it comes to homelessness

In the end I'm sure that's a real comfort to those who feel surrounded by the homeless.
