Amazing how explicit the Census Bureau is at gathering data. Anyway, This and many other 1-year estimates was recently released at, and may be queried at factfinder.census.gov

Mind you, this is MEDIAN, not average. The solution appears to be get married, stay married and have kids. I think it makes people more dedicated to providing a stable income when they know they have kids and a spouse relying on them(and each other) to make it work.

Anyway, Good job I guess.

Anyhow, there is a huge difference between Median Household Income and Median Family Income for Married Couples with Children under age 18.

I have long felt that simply gauging affordability based on MHI is flawed because different households have different expenses, and different housing desires, etc. A household of 1-2 persons generally generally looking for a 4bd house, and like I said, married couples with children tend to be a major foundation upon which financial stability emerges.

There is a stunning difference in income between the median for all households and that of married couples with children. Marin County's for example has a difference of $60,000 and every county has substantially higher medians for married couples vs. just households.

Something is going to explode.

It's just a matter of time.

It pains me to even write the above since I thought we were better than this as a society. But we are blind. We'll just wait until the poor destroy everything and then scratch our heads saying "wow I'm shocked!"

Yep, I did in all the Counties I ever lived in and in fact all the counties listed. No kids at the time at home. Daughter grown and married. Didn't start there but hard work paid off.

Same with me, though I don't have kids now. Success did not come easy, took a lot of hard work and dedication when I would have rather been doing so many other things.
