I don't think it's a matter of race, but a matter of income. I think more europeans, affluent mexican-americans, and wealthy asian-americans are moving to SF. While lower socio economic minorities are getting pushed farther inland.

I seriously doubt that Hispanics are being replaced in any area of California and especially So. Calif. because of continued illegal immigration. Asians and most whites don't breed like there is no tomorrow either. Reading the local births in my area most of the babies born have Hispanic surnames.

I also see Hispanic Areas turning Asian over time in the Eastern San Gabriel Valley, West Covina, Pomona, Northern Orange County, and parts of the East Bay such as Hayward and San Leandro.
California as an entity started out "Hispanic".

Spanish colonial/Mexican/Latino influences was always a "minor" part of California after it became part of the U.S. since 1848 and its statehood in 1850.

Not quite. First were the Natives, than the Spaniards, than the Englos, than the Mexicans and Asians. Hispanics are a mix of Spanish and Aztec. Aztecs never colonized California.

And they're still only 15% of San Francisco's population and that just 1% higher than it was 30 years ago. Its lower than the percentage of the US population for Hispanics (16.1%) A million dollar average home price and $3,000 a month rent for a one bedroom is kind of tough to come up with for a service worker (which many are).

It was indigenous for thousands of years and inland Central and Northern California (South of Sonoma, east of the Coast Range) was never really Spanish or Mexican beyond a general territorial "claim". The Sierra Nevada gold fields, the far North Coast and Central Valley were settled by Americans after the war with Mexico. The Spanish/Mexicans didn't originally settle them.
