I just got medi-cal and wondered how does it work as far as working. If I don't work at all I get it for 100% free with all of it's services right? If I end up getting a job of any kind, what happens to my medi-cal it's no longer free or I gota pay a certain fee for it or what?

As a single person anything earned over $690 will incur a Share of Cost (deductible) dollar for dollar, each month. If you earn $3000 a month you would have to pay the first $2310. However, if you have a $50000 hospital stay paying $2310 ain't so bad.

I don't think that's correct, a single adult can earn up to $16,395 annually with no share of cost. The share of cost program works as follows:

If your monthly income is higher than $1220 a month you may still be eligible for Medi-Cal with a share of cost (SOC). An SOC functions like a deductible. You must pay this amount in any month you incur medical costs. After your SOC is paid, Medi-Cal will pay the remaining amount of your medical bills for that month.

An SOC is paid only for the months you have incurred medical expenses; it is not a monthly premium. Your SOC is determined according to your monthly income, using the following formula: Medi-Cal subtracts $600 (for an individual) or $934 (for a couple) from your monthly income, and any other health-insurance premiums you may be paying.
