I live in San Jose, CA. I need to find a rental place that's: within 2 hours drive, $750/mo max, and relatively low crime (if such a place exists). Can anyone either give me some cities to check out or tell me a good way to start looking myself? I seem to be spinning my wheels trying to figure out where to begin. Thanks for any help!

Will you be commuting? That is a big factor.

If you are looking for an apartment you would probably have to go to Stockton or Merced (neither one is known for being "safe") If you just need a room share there should be some in San Jose, have you checked Craigslist?

$750? within 2 hour commute?

Sure. Live in Las Vegas and commute by plane. Whoops -- $750 doesn't get you an apartment in Las Vegas, either.

In all seriousness, you need to plan to increase your budget substantially -- between double and triple.

There's lots of places for under 750 in San Jose, OP. I assume you don't have any issues sharing the apartment with someone else, as long as you get your own room? If so, like I said, many options. Here's some:

A nice clean room for rent in blossom valley in San Jose

Bedroom for rent

Cozy room in Cahill Park

Room For Rent! 675!!!

Are you familiar with San Juan Bautista?
For some reason, it popped into my mind when i read your post.
I assume that you want to live in a place other than San Jose and not just because of the rental costs there?
Seems like that's what you were saying and people weren't hearing you?
Anyway, check it out.
