The media like CNN and FOX news like to make out that California being very liberal, laid back, hippies and potheads. At least in 60's and 70's doing the hippie movement in San Francisco may be not now days. But I hear some stories by people that most of these people left San Francisco and Los Angeles and moved to other US cities.

After going to both Los Angeles and San Francisco I have not seen any hippies and potheads the closes is surfers by the water in long hair in beach clothing and the hipsters.

I hear people going on and saying that California will legalized marijuana that seem odd to me if the hippies and potheads moved out. And going on to say you would not be caught dead walking in Los Angeles or San Francisco in long hair or dreadlocks so people have said to me.

I here that lot of the hippies and potheads moved to San Diego. Well San Diego may allow legalized marijuana but places like Los Angeles or San Francisco may vote no.

Yes, it's the best State to live in. Every other state is jealous CA and WISHED they can be more like CA. But they don't have the talents, the skills or the diverse group of people that make CA such a great state.

CA set trends. Every other state follows or buys stuff from CA. CA on the other hands, lets the poor red states pollute their own state by refining oil, and we just buy the oil from them.

Guess you missed the news from the election last month. Marijuana is legal in California now. Marijuana is now legal in California - LA Times

That said, the 1960s "flower children" grew up decades ago. California has over 38 million residents, and almost as many lifestyles (that includes San Diego, by the way). Stereotypes -never describe everyone ; all stereotypes do is blind you. And thinking you "know" a place after a short visit is a fool's errand.

Happy holidays.

That's pretty close to the truth.

Does Los Angeles and San Francisco really have any hippies any more these days? The city of San Diego may have more hippies than say Los Angeles and San Francisco. The reason I say that is the one time I was in San Diego I see lot of guys and girls in long hair, dreadlocks and the pothead and hippie look.

I never seen that in Los Angeles!! The only thing that came close in Los Angeles was the surfers by the water in long hair in beach clothing, arts people and hipsters. And if you had in the old homeless people in LA. But the typical hippie look, pothead and dreadlocks was not there in LA like I seen in San Diego.

May be south California is really different than say Los Angeles and San Francisco.

I am a stoner. but I am not a hippie, more of a libertarian?

But you'd never know it because I dress rather conservatively. Not that I have to, I just like to wear formal clothing!

I know several people who do pot. They come from all walks of life. From the lazies to the hard working white collar workers to the full-time students.

The only time I see any one suffer is when they do Crack..... I know a guy who lost everything after he had mess with that and is now in a mental hospital.

You'd be surprised how many 6 figures earners do pot. And the only way you an tell they do pot is by their droopy eyes. lol Seriously, all of them have it.

You people are all talking about a mythical California that never existed even in the 60's. It's pretty much Iowa or Kansas with a better climate and some palm trees.

I used to think that Ca was the absolute best. But not any longer. Many states aren't jealous of Ca, they actually laugh at it. They hope none of it transfers to their state. Why do you think so many states like Wa, Or, Id, etc treat transplants from Ca so rudely? It's because many Californians move there and try to change it into Ca.
It has a great economy, but it's politics and how it treats businesses has it slipping. Ca has talent and skills, but more than it's share of homeless and poor people.
I lived in Ca all my life and moved to Atlanta last year. Except for the weather I don't miss it. I do however enjoy taking the savings I have in housing and using it to travel. $20K a year savings allows you to visit a lot of places in this world.
I used to brag Ca was the film industry with Hollywood being there. But Politicians treated Hollywood like it was their personal ATM. Notice now a lot of movies and TV are in other states and Countries. I was surprised how much was done in Ga. In 2015 out of 109 feature films, and 12 of these were filmed in Georgia. California came out on top with 19 productions, followed by the U.K. (15 productions), Georgia and Louisiana (12 productions) and Canada (11 productions).
I used to think and rightfully so that nearly 100% was done in Ca. But that was many years ago.
in 2015 California did not host any of the top 25 live-action films at the worldwide box office .
In 2015 Ga hosted 248 film and tv projects. That's a lot.
If you want to make fun of the poor red states who you think pollute their own states, don't throw rocks when you live in a glass house. Just look at the Salton Sea and how it was destroyed because of the water diversion.
