California among 8 states to vote on legal weed in November - Jun. 29, 2016

Very interesting. It looks like California will have the opportunity in November to vote whether or not to allow recreational use of marijuana, with the potential of raising $1 billion in tax revenue. Thoughts?

We allow anyone to get a "Recommendation" just by saying they have a headache, so I can't imagine this measure will fail.

Crazy thought; let's legalize it, then use the tax revenue to fight our homeless "state of emergency" without selectively jacking tax rates. Garecetti? Anyone?

I'll vote to legalize because it will reduce crime. Once it goes retail then all of the crime associated with illegal production and dealing is put out of business. The same thing happened with Prohibition -- when alcohol was illegal, crime and murders soared as illegal producers and dealers fought over territory and money. Once Prohibition ended the crime rate fell back to normal.

Despite the reduction in crime, the major opponents to legalization are the police chiefs and sheriffs. It's obvious why. If you don't need to enforce drug laws you need fewer officers. The police chiefs are just protecting their little empires and their budgets. They like the drug war because it justifies more staff and funding. It's appalling that our police chiefs would be so self-serving.

The War on drugs has been a huge waste of resources in California. Legalize it, regulate it, and let grown adults choose.

Now if only the leftist retards in California would realize the same thing about banning "guns", they might start to make the state less "progressive left" and more "moderately intelligent".

People should think twice about voting for pot legalization in CA. Colorado's legalization has had a lot of unexpected / unintended consequences and has not generated much tax revenue for the state:

I do support legalization of marijuana. I think it would help take power away from the cartels in Mexico and around the world. I will have to see how the proposal is worded, however.

It still has to be legal for an employer to fire someone for coming to work under the influence. It still has to be illegal to drive under the influence. Employers should still be able to drug test people and have a drug free workplace.

You should have to be a certain age to legally consume marijuana. 21 would be fine.

Smoking ANYTHING in a bar or restaurant, or public transportation, or private mass transit (Greyhound, airliners) should be illegal.

It should be illegal to sell it at your house. It should have to be a commercial property with a license to sell it.

It needs to continue to be illegal to grow it out in the woods in Humbolt County. It should have to be a licensed farm. The government should be able to revoke the license if the operation is doing other illegal things, etc.

Nope. Legalization in Colorado has only helped the cartels:

Mexican drug cartels are taking full advantage of Colorado's marijuana laws - 7NEWS Denver TheDenverChannel.com

From the article:
Quote:
Duque said cartels are now trading drugs like heroin for marijuana, and the trade has since opened the door to drug and human trafficking.
“We have lots of victims. People are victimized whether they are being forced into prostitution, whether they are being kidnapped or just becoming addicts to illegal drug,” said Duque.
And with that, Duque argued, comes money laundering. He said Cartels are often disguising their money through legally purchasing marijuana or buying houses and growing marijuana in it.
