Martinez is a big city (as opposed to being an East Bay suburb)? Martinez is nice though

Martinez is quite small, around 39,000 people. But there are other places that are similarly located that aren't terribly expensive. Benicia is a lovely little town with wonderful schools and is still relatively affordable.

Whenever there is a discussion about high housing costs, salaries should be part of the discussion. My son graduated from UNR with a degree in accounting, he loved Reno and stayed there for a year after graduating but couldn't find a job that paid more than 30k a year. He started applying for jobs out of state and got a number of offers and finally accepted a job in the SF bay area that started at $53,000 and now pays over $70,000.

It's been five years since my son moved out of Reno and during that time both rent and salaries have generally both gone up in Northern California. But in Reno, wages are pretty much stagnant and rents have almost doubled. The apartment he rented in Reno for $900 a month now goes for $1500 a month. He recently talked to a friend who stayed at the firm where he was paid $30,000 a year and after 6 years of employment his friend is now getting paid $38,000 and that's with a longevity raise and a promotion

In SoCal wages have decreased and rents have way more than doubled.

I have a lot of friends who live in the Philippines, some want to move to the US, others simply want to visit... but they can't get any kind of visa including tourist.

Does that mean they can now come to California with no visa? Or is it simply saying... hey if you can sneak in, we won't kick you out?

Of course they can get a Visa, that's silly. The Philippines are not part of the Visa waiver program so they need to apply for a tourist Visa. As far as immigration most Filipino citizens can get lawful permanent residence as immediate relatives of U.S. citizens or as other family-sponsored immigrants.

It does not matter if a State is Red, Blue, Purple, Orange, Green, etc. The problem is a One Party State, as such have never succeeded in making things better and eventually fail badly. Please name one State/Country that is one party controlled that is doing well for its residents. You know like Venezuela, Cuba, Russia, China, etc?

It's not like states in the US south are not controlled by one party. But it's OK when your side does it. And then there is the federal government of the US.

I have no side, and you are confirming the problems with one party rule. The US right now is not run by any party, with Trump in office.
