Creating this thread as I enjoy my dark roast coffee. Is this going to change your coffee habit?

Not at all.

I'm highly skeptical of this recent study given that it's largely based on correlation data from a single chemical in coffee. Yes, acrylamides are linked to cancer, but there are so many other factors that can reduce or even eliminate the risk of cancer from drinking coffee. First off, the amount of acrylamide in the coffee is critical, and according to the studies, test rodents were exposed to 1,000 to 10,000 times the normal amount found in typical human foods. Second, the results from animal testing are not always translatable to humans. Thirdly, there are a variety of antioxidants in coffee that are known to reduce certain types of cancers.

Bottom line: Studies like the recent one which claim coffee can cause cancer aren't sophisticated enough to take into account all of the complexities of coffee. In other words, one aspect of coffee may technically elevate the risk of cancer (i.e. acrylamides), but multiple other aspects may reduce the risk of cancer (i.e. antioxidants). More studies seem to conclude that coffee either has a neutral or positive effect on health and reduced cancer risk.

I think since California has the most sunshine of any state and the sun is known to cause cancer the state of California should be sued for not warning all residents and visitors that being in the state of California can cause cancer.

It’s a proven fact that everyone who drinks coffee dies.

WARNING: Coffee may cause cancer if you drink 1,000 to 10,000 times a day MORE than you do now! Better if you inject them intravenously. In that case, we will provide free needles and syringes, plus a safe house for you to do so without judgement from others.

I am more concerned with the plastic cups they pour hot coffee on than the coffee causing cancer

Wasn’t there just an article out recently that said people who drink 2 to 3 cups of coffee a day live longer? I know that there are antioxidant properties in coffee. I mean yes I guess if you drink an exorbitant amount like 50 cups a day or something it could cause cancer. But most anything in large amounts nowadays causes cancer. My opinion is just live your life and stop worrying.
