Recently flew from LA to Hawaii, and the high-level vog started being obvious about halfway there, so maybe?

Seasons are a bit delayed in Southern California. The summer really is August, September, and October I've found.

You're more likely to get a 90 degree coastal day on one of those Santa Ana wind days in October than in June.

I'd add July to that list. It gets plenty hot in July. But June is definitely not full summer; this year may be a bit cooler than usual but it's really rarely that hot in June.

Definitely not unusual for the NorCal inland areas to hit triple digits in summer. In particular, check out Redding in the very far north.

I was just in Honolulu, and surprised it actually felt not only not as hot as expected it was sometimes actually chilly there. I guess the volcano blocked out some of the suns rays.

The NorCal heat wave have moved on though NorCal is chilly again.
Though last weekend is unique as it’s not everyday when city of San Francisco proper gets hotter temps than Riverside in any time of the day.

San Francisco can get pretty humid during the few days it's hot.. 90 there isn't the same as 90 in the IE or Central Valley.

I just got back from the Big Island on SAturday and didn't notice any difference than all the other times I've been, even in Hilo where you could actually see steam/vog coming up in the distance. The trade winds dominate during summer and blow east to west so I have a hard time imagining it making it halfway to CA considering that's the opposite direction it usually gets blown.

I was in Hawaii in May, and notice that Oahu was not as hot as expected which was a good thing in someway as it can get pretty hot and humid there.

I was headed to San Jose from San Diego the day I posted this and was surprised how parts of San Jose was almost in the triple digits yet in San Diego even in "hot" inland places like El Cajon or Escondido that day the actual temperatures were lower than in San Francisco proper during that time of the day. The SD coast was chilly, foggy, and windy. I lived in both NorCal Bay Area and SoCal and know that the coasts of SoCal are generally warmer in any time of the year than the coasts off NorCal where often even during the middle of a heatwave it is often so chilly and windy when one opens the car door after parking next to a beach the beach day becomes too chilly to be enjoyable not to mention how cold the water is. Though these days we finally get our summer's fury, shortly after everyone else got their's.

Going back to the original topic, check out the extended forecast for Redding, CA near the Oregon border:

108/71
102/72
108/74
109/74
108/71
105/71
106/71
105/72
104/71
103/71

I would say that's far hotter than anywhere in SoCal outside of the deserts.
