My older brother is evacuated from his home in Old Shasta along with many others. Houses are burning, power going out in many places and it's going to be over 100 degrees for the next week!
The picture looks like Shasta Historic Park is on fire and Oak Bottom Marina on Whiskeytown Lake is destroyed!

Latest word is over 45,000 acres burned with 3% containment, with the size doubling over night.

Homes all over Redding have been destroyed. Neighborhoods have been decimated, and it's still going on, with evacuations for the City of Shasta Lake now in place. Many of my friends are waiting to see if their homes are okay as they cannot get in their neighborhoods as of yet. Im lucky as I live off of Hilltop Drive where we, so far, have not been evacuated.

Its supposed to be 113 today with temps in the high 100's for this coming week, with winds kicking up at night. Ash is falling in the area the size of half dollars, and those of us safe so far are still packing up ready to evacuate if necessary as the winds have been shifting back over areas already burned.

Fire and Traffic Information Shasta County Facebook page is filled with information as well as pictures and videos of the horrible devastation from the Carr Fire for those who want to keep up with the latest information

I'm praying hard for Redding area. I didn't realize what was going on as I haven't been watching the news. I'm so glad your brother got out. So far all I can find is "only" 6% is contained

Containment has been reduced to 3% due to the fire doubling in size in the last 24 hrs.

Thank you for your post. I've been all over Youtube, and the internet, but I trust more hearing from someone that lives near the area. I am heartbroken to hear of the losses people are suffering and will keep praying for Redding. I'm over on the coast in CC, but I hadn't seen the news about Redding until this a.m. on Facebook.

The fire is creating its own weather, so it’s hard for officials to predict its behavior. Large chunks of neighborhoods on the north and west side of town were damaged. My house is there but others in my area of town weren’t as lucky. I was in town this morning and saw 5 fire rigs go by and they were all from the Bay Area, and there are dozens of CHP squads in town so there’s lots of help. Last night they had to suspend fighting fire in some areas so the fire fighters could assist in evacuations.

Thank you for your update CCbaxter, so good to know there is a lot of help showing up in and around Redding!!
I can't find a site that is up to the minute, that I can watch online. I tried one called California Firewatch and they didn't even have the Carr Fire listed!!

Check Facebook pages KRCR TV and Fire and Traffic Information Shasta County. Both are pretty much up to date and KRCR is actually running live video on their Facebook page.

Cal fire also has a website. Two firefighters died, fighting this fire, I hope there will be no more deaths. Such a tragedy. Firefighters are true heroes imo.
