Yup. The State of California doesn't miss a chance to collect taxes. Too bad the Feds/IRS couldn't figure out this approach, to corporations moving their accounts offshore. That tax money would be quite a windfall for the federal budget. Imagine--Social Security would have a rosy future, bridges could be repaired, there might even be a trickle-down, to fund public universities and reduce student tuition to reasonable amounts!

Well, I can dream, can't I?

It won't be long before Compton looks just like Beverly Hills. You will go to downtown Compton and the streets will be lined with high end fashion designer stores, hoity-toity espresso shops selling $10 cappucinos, and Ferrari dealerships. All the modest bungalows in the city will have been torn down and replaced with 6,000 sq ft McMansions.

This will happen in Oakland, too. Maybe even Fresno will get in on the action.

And it will keep happening throughout all the desirable areas. People with money can buy and those without can't.

So given the choice, would you prefer an area of blight or that same area being gentrified? A third option is to move to an affordable part of CA. But if you want to live where the action is, you got to pay the price of admission.

That is definitely happening. City leaders are tired of sprawling out and infill/gentrification projects are all the rage now.The dumpiest mall in Fresno (and one of the dumpiest in all of CA), just got a 200 million dollar renovation. They're also spending 115 million to fix up one of the worst neighborhoods in Fresno. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Lots more will be happening throughout ignored CA.

I don't recall ever seeing a post stating the rich are leaving in droves, at least not at present. It's the middle class and below that are more likely to leave. The rich have money so Ca COL is not an issue for them.
