Debt is only meaningful in relation to revenue. Which, in California’s case ....

Keep in mind that so few corporations, people and politicians control most that wealth. Apple, Facebook, Disney, Chevron, property management and farming conglomerates. I can go on.

Ask all the tent city dwellers how much comes their way.

Conservatives can't stand it when California has good economic news so they come on here and rain on the parade.

Let's have a balanced picture - California also has the following:

Top 5 income inequality
Top 7 in underemployment
37th in K-12 Education
Top 3 median housing prices

Despite economic prosperity California has experienced in the last 40 years, we're still experiencing fundamental societal issues. I can't begin to fathom what would happen here if Silicon Valley's gravy train flows elsewhere.

When people and articles use the name California, it does not mean everything in CA.

It can mean the physical State as in the weather and beauty
The State Government
The GDP produced by some of the people/Companies
An expected attitude such as California Dreaming
The QOL as in one of the largest Homeless populations, or the cost to buy a home, etc.

The GDP has nothing to do with the Government or even the people in general.

Income inequality is simply based on desirability and what company's are willing to pay, taxes and fees, etc., as an example

Underemployment can be based on the increase in minimum wage, cost of doing business and illegals taking jobs at below minimum wage and displacing legal residents, etc.

Education is a State Governance issue, so poor quality governance and of course the number of non English speaking children in the schools.

Housing is based on weather, Coastal living and the number of people making or having enough to buy.

How has the growth in the economy impacted you, or most people loving in CA?
