Gainfully employed Democrats in California are the ones who put California Democratic legislators into office.

Silicon Valley democrat entrepreneurs getting attacked by Sacramento democrats.
Should be interesting to see how this affects politics in CA.

This will only hurt the business model of Uber, Lyft and the other gig economy companys.
It will certainly reduce the available $s that will flow to drivers. So drivers will be hurt first by this, and secondly company profits. Beneficiaries will insurance companies and other HR services that will have to be now provided to drivers/workers.

But most certainly, the poor driver working 60 hours per week, homeless in his car, will not have more money, or really any reasonable benefits to offset the lower income. This will be a lose-lose for company and driver, and a win for the bureaucracy who feeds off of regulation.

But such is the hallmark of the democratic way. Just think of what would happen of the progressives get in. Imagine the destruction if Warren or the Squad had their way.

Instant recession.

The problem with Newsom and his Democrat ilk is that they believe they can "legislate" economic prosperity. Simply saying "You have to hire all these people and give them health benefits" is the equivalent of wishing for things on a genie lamp.

Newsom has never worked a real job or run a company without the financial help of the one percenters he claims to fight against and supposedly hates; Gettys, the Pritzkers and the Fishers. He an elitist no-nothing that stumbled into office because the state's voters know no better.

Yup. And we certainly don’t want democracy getting in the way of money now do we!

I hate this law. It applies to pretty much everyone, even if they have nothing to do with rideshare or shopping delivery. I'm a freelance writer and editor. I chose to be independent. This was just a power grab for unions, and I say that as someone who is normally pro-union. Already I know writers who have lost work, and one of my clients is currently talking to lawyers about how to deal with their CA-based contractors. Out-of-state companies, for the most part, can just drop us and give the contract work to people in other states. The law is a #%$#&#^$&# overreach. The authors are presenting all contractors as poor little rideshare waifs, when really, most of us are professionals who dump bad clients instead of suffering.

And it's laughable to think that this will magically result in a worker's paradise. Companies can hire part-time -- so much for those benefits -- and guaranteeing minimum wage isn't a real attraction for people who had been earning a few times the minimum wage before.

I have seen more and more tweets from Democrats claiming they may start voting Republican in local and state elections (no one has started promoting Trump). I don't know how many will follow through with that, or if those numbers would be enough to end the Democrat supermajority, but I wouldn't be surprised to see more Republican votes locally.

This was published a couple of days ago. A little late, but he seems to get it.

It’s being challenged in court by uber and Lyft who are confident they will win.

And meanwhile everyone else will feel its effects while Uber and Lyft ignore it. (Their claims and lawsuits don't halt the law from taking effect.)

I feel for you guys.

When my company was in its infancy back in 2011, we relied heavily on contractors to build out software modules for us, and we paid them good money. These guys weren't living hand to mouth, many of them would be driving new BMW sports coupes to our office when we had production meetings.

Now all of that has disappeared because Newsom doesn't understand how a real economy works.

Now Assembly Bill 5 is signed into law and will take effect in January. So businesses will automatically reclassify hundreds of thousands of contractors as bona fide employees with benefits, right?

Not so fast.
