I was reading about this couple of months ago and it seemed really interesting so basically the developer(San Jose Light Corporation, Non-profit) is looking at ideas for a monument/landmark to honor the Tech world which will be built in San Jose by 2021 and they're asking the public to submit their ideas for it (link below, just started few weeks ago, deadline Jan. 2020) and this whole project is actually known as the Urban Confluence Silicon Valley, which is an international open ideas competition in which up to 50 submissions will be displayed in a public exhibition in February and on their website as well for public comment. Then the jury will select three finalists(each will receive $150,000) and announce them in March and then a final decision will be made in July 2020. The monument will be entirely covered by donations and they say they already raised $1 million. So what will best symobilize Silicon Valley? I came up with these few ideas(except the pointer arrow, that image was circling around when those articles came out) but would really like to hear other ideas/opinions on this.

Wouldn't mind something with a bit more of an artistic departure from the (sorry) very literal options in the poll. Silicon Valley isn't just the Internet, it changed things in a much more profound manner.

Benjamin Franklin

Electricity

Without which none of those would've been possible.

You have a point but Electricity wasn't invented in Silicon Valley.

The bronze statue of a silicon chip is actually a real good idea. I mean besides getting its nickname from it, Silicon Valley wouldn’t exist as we know it without it. I disagree about it not looking that appealing? There’s a lot of intricacies on one that could translate well onto a sculpture.

I respect your opinion especially on the historical aspect of Silicon Valley. But i just think that a statue of a person such as Steve Jobs might be more attractive.
