I recently was debating someone who is in favor of Proposition 16 which would reinstate affirmative action for public employment and pubic education. Their defense was that the UC system had a disproportionate amount of white students enrolled versus minorities and claimed racism was the cause of that.

I automatically reject the notion that there's some sort of racial bias against minorities based on a lack of evidence and knowing dam well that the University of California system is chalked full of left wing activist types from top to bottom. I also remember visiting a few UC campuses and just from simple observation it didn't appear that there was any lack of minority students but I didn't have the data off hand to dispute this claim.

So afterwards I did a quick search and found an article that the freshmen enrollment at UC for the 2020 year broke down as such,

Hispanic -36%
Asian - 35%
White -21%
Black -5%
Decline to state - 3%

Meanwhile the state of CA demographics for 2020 are the following,

Hispanic - 39.4%
White - 36.5%
Asian - 15.5%
Black -6.5%

So I really don't see any disparities among minority students and the only group that is under represented by a significant margin are whites. So why do we need affirmative action again?

Sounds like discrimination to me. Thanks for bringing this up. That's a big NO from me.

You can't be serious. Read the actual proposition.

From the link you provided:

“Proposition 16 is a constitutional amendment that would repeal Proposition 209, passed in 1996, from the California Constitution. Proposition 209 stated that discrimination and preferential treatment were prohibited in public employment, public education, and public contracting on account of a person's or group's race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin. Therefore, Proposition 209 banned the use of affirmative action involving race-based or sex-based preferences in California.

Without Proposition 209, the state government, local governments, public universities, and other political subdivisions and public entities would—within the limits of federal law—be allowed to develop and use affirmative action programs that I grant preferences based on race, sex, color, ethnicity, and national origin in public employment, public education, and public contracting.”

That’s a big NO for me too.

It is a war on white people. Same thing is happening in Germany.

From the link from CA4now

Proposition 16 would remove the ban on affirmative action involving race-based or sex-based preferences from the California Constitution.

Let's call Prop 16 for what it actually is: legalized racism.
And let's not make this a caucasian vs all POC issue. If Prop 16 is passed, not only will whites be legally discriminated against, so too will Asian Americans. Don't believe me? Look at what Harvard was doing to Asians and whites.
Prop 16 will elevate blacks, Mexicans, Indians, and illegals while pushing down whites and Asians making it that much more difficult to get a state or county job or get your kids admitted to a competitive UC or CSU... unless you're best buds with Nancy Pelosi's husband.

If you're a white male it's already damn near impossible to get a state job in the "most diverse state". How do I know? I took state tests and tested at number 1- highest qualified- and number 2 for two separate positions. Didn't get one interview.

Prop 16 is legalized racism. It's a big fat frigging NO from me.

Hmmm.... I have a hard time believing that you didn't get contacted for an interview. The top three ranks are the first to be scheduled.

Prop 16 judge people based on ethnicity = quota system, not based on qualifications.

A big NO for me.
