It is really starting to look like this area is going to grow like a weed now and in to the future with all of these new projects approved for development. But what else are you going to do when available housing is so unavailable in the city? It's going to be interesting to see the impact on the traffic in the area, will most of these people work in Bakersfield or will they actually commute up and down the grapevine into LA on a daily basis? Santa Clarita people can't be happy? Of course this is just one of three housing projects in the area, the others being in Lebec and Quail Lake, this will have a significant impact on the region.

As for Bakersfield, this is going to be great for that area, more entertainment options and of course only a 30 minute drive from the Tejon area to Bakersfield proper without having to drive over a mountain. Distribution Centers keep popping up all over the place in Kern County but especially in this little HUB.

Every year I always hear about California's lack of housing supply,so hopefully this will help the state somewhat, but also Bakersfield is pro-growth especially because Kern County has a lot of undeveloped land, and also some people would like to live in a community where you actually have Winter-Like weather with snow,or near the Tejon Outlet Area for shopping, but other businesses i'm sure will follow whenever these new housing communities build up.

Where there's people eventually there's gonna be traffic either way because people will continue to drive....I'm glad Bakersfield and Kern County is Pro-Growth,but i'm sure this growth is gonna be more manageable and not out of control like Las Vegas or Phoenix.

Going to suck seeing more traffic on the i5/99
Wish this somehow came with a light rail to Bakersfield, too.

Perhaps a commuter bus link would suffice. I don’t see a rail link anytime soon since the CA High Speed Authority can’t even engineer an alignment through the Grapevine.

for you socal folks,

isnt lancaster and pinedale just as affordable as bakersfield but closer to LA? And lancaster/pinedale are sizeable cities?

I always thought the reason why bako is still not going to get to the likes of sacramento and even fresno (oasis cities for people priced out of the bay area 2 hours away), was because there are still closer and cheaper cities closer to LA than bakersfield is.

Palmdale isnt cheap anymore. Cost of living in palmdale is similar to the cost of sacramento. Not sure about lancaster.

i just checked zillow on new construction homes and i see it. Bakersfield still have plenty of new construction home starting from the low to mid 300s. While palmdale lowest is low to mid 400s. So yea, like Sac vs Fresno, about $100K+ difference median price for similar home/neighborhood

The Centennial project, which is part of the Tejon developments you're talking about, is slated to add 19,000+ homes to the far west side of the Antelope Valley. This is technically in Lancaster's zip code (93536). Highway 138 will be widened from I-5 to State Route 14 and become a 4-lane freeway soon.

If I recall correctly there is this odd Ikea placed in middle of nowhere. Right where, heading north to Bako on I-5, just before you hit the green fields that are right before Bako. So strange they put one there.

If Tejon Ranch is being developed, you would think Rosamond, or Mojave and Tehachapi see growth sooner.
