I'd read this post from Pawsinten who moved to Bakersfield several months ago with a family. They got negatives from people before they moved but then took the time to report back.

Tehachapi is in the mountains above Arvin. I don't know a whole lot about the place. Only driven through on occasion. Seems relatively nice, forrested area. It's in between the Valley and desert. Snows up there. I'd at least go look if I was to work in Arvin.

I used to live in Bakersfield years ago and it's not that bad. It's definitely not Ontario... So it will be an adjustment for you. Summers are steaming. Cost wise, it's not as expensive as Los Angeles. I am assuming the cost of living on Ontario is more than Bakersfield. Why is your husband going to Arvin?
