I've never been to that area. But I heard from a magazine it is the most miserable place in the entire country. Why is this? It seemed a bit strange to me to read, since it sounded like some relatively small area in California. What's so miserable about that area? How is the culture and people, is there things to do there? Thanks.

Stockton is what you get when the Bay Area had a wild night on the town and threw up the next morning. Stockton is a cess pool of crime, drugs, violence, prostitution, gangs, etc. It has one of the highest murder and theft rates in the US. Outside of the bubble around UOP, Stockton is absolute garbage. I can't even get gas there without being approached by someone most of the time.

Stockton is sort of like a Mexican town that's controlled by a number of gangs and the place is full of hookers. I drive through it on I-5 and 99 sometimes, but there is nothing there.

Wait! How can you say that there's nothing there?!?
Don't try to take away from one of Stockton's most redeeming features!

I don't know why, but it is horrific. So is Vallejo. You would think they would be nice because of location, but they are not. They are scary, terrible towns with crazy crime.
