Have discovered this forum and am so grateful for the amount of info on here! Please can anyone advise to the following?:
I am living in the UK but have dual Nationality and having recently renewed my US passport am looking to emigrate with my family to San Diego. I was born in San Jose to British parents but have never been back until now( its a big birthday in Feb 09 and have made arrangements to visit - a pilgramage really).
We are healthy, hard working and credit free (barr the good ole mortgage) and having read other posts on this forum, have been able to pick up some really good tips. What I really wanted to know is, I understand it would be better to rent for a year before buying, so that we buy in the right place for us, but do we need a job to be able to rent? In UK they want to see wage slips to know you can pay. Obviously we will have capitol from our house sale here, so money is not an issue. I have read info regarding, car insurance, fuel prices(they are definitely cheaper in the USA!!) and school performance maps. Does anyone have any tips or genuine advice for us.
An American returning!!

If you have a lump of cash be very careful about bringing it to the US and dumping it into a bank account. I would look for a temporary home for it maybe Switzerland. Then when you are ready and need the money use it.When you become resident everything changes. Some accounts (internet access)are not available to US citizens but some are.
