From the public school rankings, only Brookside had a high rating and I can't afford that neighborhood! Even the popular gated communities have low ranking schools. Why is this? Anyone have experience with the public schools of Stockton?

We are overrun with illegals all over the state- - you have to send your kids to private schools, or "choice" in to a decent public school in the area, or live in the white suburbs - - from coast to coast, that's the way it is now- - Black/ Latino kids aren't interested in the trappings of academia - -

There are none. Take it from me... I went to Franklin High School in East Stockton. Low-quality, low standards and the teachers let the kids get away with not doing anything. Or, we watched movies in class. It's truly awful. The substitutes don't want to be there in the first place and the kids don't care to learn anything. As with Stockton itself, the people are why it sucks.

Stockton Unified School District as a whole is pretty bad. Lincoln Unified is better and there are a lot of schools within Stockton city limits that belong to Lodi Unified, also not bad. If you live in Stockton Unified's district, I would sugesst looking into the charter schools. These schools you have to request your child attend and it might not be the most convenient, distance wise, but you'll find that the parents are more involved with the kids education and that makes for a better school. There is limited availability in most cases though.

I'm not a fan of the whole district situation. You live in a certain area and you have to attend "this" school. If parents got to choose from a selection of schools, I feel the schools would care more about the quality of their educational experience and try to make it better to draw in attendance. I aslo think this would weed out the parents who care more about children's education than distance to and from.

I would advise you to not live in Stockton if you want decent public schools.
